Working in Little Paxton

## The housing in Little Paxton, and what it needs
Little Paxton sits just north of St Neots, between the Great Ouse and Paxton Pits, a short drive from our yard. It has grown a lot: a small core of older village houses, large estates built from the 1970s onward, and newer homes on the edges of the village.

The newer homes often come with a basic drive and a back garden that is little more than thin turf over compacted builders' ground. The older estates tend to have drives that are now too small or starting to break up, and fencing that has had its day.

We take care of the whole job in one go: excavation, sub-base, edgings, drainage, the new surface and all waste taken away, then a full clean-up at the end.

### Properties we work on here
Older cottages and houses in the original village
- 1970s and 1980s estate homes
- Newer developments on the edge of the village
- Detached homes with wide frontages
- Gardens backing onto open ground and the lakes

Common jobs here

## What Little Paxton homeowners usually call about

### Wider drives for growing families
Many homes here have a single drive and a front lawn. Widening for a second or third car is a common request, done with proper edgings so the new part matches the old line.

### Finishing new-build gardens
Newer homes are often handed over with compacted ground and no patio. Getting the levels and drainage right first is what lets the lawn and paving last.

### New lawns and artificial grass
Lawns that never take on poor ground are a common complaint. We prepare the ground properly before laying new turf or artificial grass.

### Replacing tired fencing
Gardens backing onto open land take the full force of the wind. A full new run of fencing, with posts set firm, stands up far better than patching.

Local conditions

## The problems that come with building in Little Paxton
Ground, drainage, building age and access all change what a job needs. These are the things we look at when we come out to you.

### Gravel and river ground
Little Paxton grew up beside the Ouse and the old gravel workings that are now Paxton Pits. Ground near the river can hold water, so falls and drainage are planned in from the start.

### Compacted new-build plots
Builders' vehicles leave new gardens heavily compacted, with a thin layer of topsoil spread on top. That ground needs breaking up and preparing before anything is laid.

### Drainage on flat sites
Much of the village is fairly flat, so a new surface needs a deliberate fall built in. Without it, rainwater sits on the drive and slowly works into the base.

Coverage

## The Little Paxton area we cover
We cover the whole of Little Paxton, from the original village to the newer estates, plus Great Paxton, Diddington and the roads toward St Neots. It is a short drive from our yard at Hail Weston.

Newer gardens benefit from having the patio and lawn planned together, so the levels and drainage work as one. Ground preparation is the same whatever the season.

Choosing a surface

## What tends to suit Little Paxton homes
For newer homes, resin bound and block paving are both popular, giving a clean, modern frontage. Porcelain is a good match for contemporary patios, while Indian sandstone suits a softer, more natural look. Artificial grass is an option where a lawn has struggled.

Common questions

## Little Paxton: questions we get asked
Do you work in Little Paxton?Yes. Little Paxton is just a few minutes from our yard in Hail Weston, and we cover the whole village and nearby Great Paxton.

How much does a new driveway cost in Little Paxton?Prices depend on the size of the area, the surface you choose and what has to be dug out first, so every job in Little Paxton is quoted after a site visit rather than priced over the phone. The visit and the quote are free and carry no obligation.

Do you need a deposit? No. There is no deposit and no payment of any kind until the job is finished and you are happy with it. We buy all the materials ourselves up front. They simply stay ours until the job is paid for, which is what lets us ask nothing of you until the work is finished.

Is your work guaranteed? All our work carries a 5-year workmanship guarantee covering everything but fair wear and tear, given directly by us rather than through a third-party scheme.

My new-build garden is just mud. Can you help?Yes. We sort out the levels and drainage and prepare the ground properly before laying turf, artificial grass or a patio.

Can you widen my existing driveway?Yes. We can extend the drive across the front garden with matching edgings, and the old and new sections are built on the same properly prepared base.

Do you take away the old surface?Yes. Excavation and removal of all waste is included, with a full clean-up at the end.

How do I arrange a quote?Call or message Martin to arrange a visit. The visit and the quote are free and there is no obligation.
