What this covers

## Brickwork across Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire & Northamptonshire
Brickwork is what gives a finished garden its edges: the wall at the front boundary, the low course holding a raised bed, the piers either side of a driveway entrance, the retaining wall that turns a slope into a level terrace.

PaveCreate builds garden walls and brickwork finished to sit properly with the rest of the work. Because we are already doing the groundwork and the paving, the foundation, the levels and the coursing get set out against the surface the wall meets, rather than being worked around afterwards.

It suits homeowners with a leaning or cracked garden wall, a bank that needs holding back, a driveway entrance that needs defining, or a new patio and lawn that need a proper edge instead of a ragged boundary.

### When homeowners call us
A garden wall that is leaning, bulging or cracked
- A slope or bank that needs retaining to make ground usable
- Raised beds and planters built to last
- Piers, low walls and defined edges to a driveway entrance
- Steps and split levels on a sloping garden
- Boundary walls replacing tired fencing at the front of a house

What happens if it is left

## The cost of leaving it another season
Masonry gives plenty of warning before it fails, and those warnings are usually ignored until something moves.

### Retaining walls fail suddenly
A wall holding back soil is under constant load, and saturated ground pushes far harder than dry. Bulging or leaning is the wall telling you it is losing, and the failure itself is rarely gradual.

### Movement means foundation, not brick
Stepped cracks and lean almost always come from the foundation below ground, so repointing the visible face changes nothing at all.

### Water with nowhere to go
A retaining wall with no drainage behind it holds water in the ground it is retaining, adding pressure to the exact thing it was built to resist.

### Falling masonry
Loose copings and unstable brickwork at head height on a boundary next to a path or driveway are a genuine hazard, not just an untidy one.

### Common mistakes we get called out to fix

- |Building a wall straight off the ground with no proper foundation
- |Using a low garden wall to retain ground it was never designed to hold
- |Leaving out drainage and weep holes behind a retaining wall
- |Finishing without copings, so water soaks into the top of the wall
- |Building the wall before the paving levels are known, then having to work around it

What you get

## What a PaveCreate job actually gives you

### Built off a proper foundation
The foundation is excavated and set to suit the wall and the ground, because everything above it depends on that.

### Drainage where it retains
Retaining walls are built with drainage behind them so water is released rather than stored up against the structure.

### Set out with the paving
Coursing, levels and edges worked out against the driveway, patio or lawn the wall meets, so the two finish together.

### Finished, not just built
Copings, edges and detailing that protect the top of the wall and make it look like part of the house rather than an afterthought.

### All waste taken away
Spoil from the foundation and any demolished masonry goes with us, with a full clean-up at the end.

### No deposit, guaranteed five years
Nothing to pay until the work is finished and you are happy, and a 5-year workmanship guarantee on all work carried out.

In detail

## Materials, methods and the options open to you

### Garden and boundary walls
A boundary wall is the first thing seen from the road, so the brick, the bond and the coping matter as much as the build. Matching or complementing the house brick, keeping the coursing level along a sloping frontage, and finishing the top so water runs off rather than soaks in are what keep a wall looking right years later.

### Retaining walls
Retaining walls do structural work: they hold ground, and the wetter that ground gets the harder it pushes. They are built off a foundation sized for the load, with drainage behind so water pressure is relieved rather than allowed to build. On sloping gardens a retaining wall is usually what makes a level terrace, a usable lawn or a patio possible at all.

### Raised beds and planters
Built beds hold soil, define planting and edge a lawn or patio cleanly. Built in masonry rather than timber they do not rot out, and they can be set to a height that makes planting and maintenance easier.

### Piers, steps and entrance details
Piers at a driveway entrance, low walls flanking a path, and steps between levels are the details that make a frontage read as finished. They tie the driveway, the wall line and the front door together instead of leaving three separate elements meeting awkwardly.

- Driveway entrance piers and low flanking walls
- Steps between terraces and split levels
- Copings, edges and capping details
- Brickwork matched to the existing house where possible

### Brickwork alongside the rest of the job
Walls are rarely a standalone job. They go in with a driveway, a patio or a landscaping scheme, and having the same team do the groundwork, the masonry and the paving means the foundation depth, the finished levels and the edge details are all set out as one thing.

Common questions

## Brickwork: questions we get asked
How much does a garden wall cost?It depends on the length, the height, whether it retains ground, and the brick or block used. The site visit and quote are free and come with no obligation.

Can you match the brickwork to my house? We will look at the existing brick at the site visit and talk through the closest match or the best complement, along with the bond and coping detail.

My garden wall is leaning: can it be repaired? It depends on why it is moving. Lean and stepped cracking usually come from the foundation, in which case rebuilding is the honest answer rather than patching the face. Martin will tell you which it is.

Do you build retaining walls for sloping gardens?Yes. Retaining walls are built off a foundation sized for the load, with drainage behind them, and are usually how a sloping garden gets turned into usable level space.

Do you need a deposit? No. There is no deposit and no payment of any kind until the work is finished and you are happy with it.

Is the brickwork guaranteed?Yes, a 5-year workmanship guarantee on all work carried out, covering everything but fair wear and tear.

Can you build the wall at the same time as a new driveway or patio?Yes, and it is the better way to do it. The foundations, the levels and the paving edges all get set out together.

Which areas do you cover?St Neots, Bedford, Sawtry, Huntingdon, Wellingborough, Cambridge, Rushden, Sandy and Northampton, plus the surrounding towns and villages.
