What this covers

## Driveways across Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire & Northamptonshire
A driveway is the largest piece of hard landscaping most homes ever have laid, and it is the one thing every visitor walks over before they reach the front door. It has to carry the weight of vehicles day after day, shed rainwater away from the house, and stay level while the ground beneath it moves with the seasons. Almost all of that work happens out of sight, below the surface you actually chose.

PaveCreate lays complete driveways across Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire, resin bound, tarmac, block paving, concrete imprint and resin gravel. Whichever surface you pick, the job we quote is the whole job: the old surface dug out and taken away, a properly compacted sub-base, edge restraints, drainage, the surface itself, and a full clean-up at the end.

This suits homeowners replacing a driveway that has sunk, cracked, gone weedy or turned into a puddle every time it rains, as well as anyone widening a drive for a second car, converting a front garden to off-street parking, or finishing a newly built home that was handed over with bare ground.

### When homeowners call us
Old concrete or tarmac that has cracked, sunk or lifted
- Block paving with weeds, ruts or wheel-track dips
- A front garden being turned into off-street parking
- Widening a drive to take a second or third vehicle
- Standing water, or rainwater running back toward the house
- A new-build handover left as bare ground or a temporary surface

What happens if it is left

## The cost of leaving it another season
A tired driveway rarely stays a cosmetic problem. Water is the thing that turns it into an expensive one.

### Water finds the house
Once a surface falls the wrong way or ponds in the middle, rainwater sits against brickwork, thresholds and airbricks instead of draining away. Damp at the base of a wall is far dearer to put right than the driveway that caused it.

### Small cracks become full failure
Water gets into a hairline crack, freezes, and widens it. A surface that could have been relaid in one operation turns into a break-up-and-start-again job, because the base underneath has been washed out.

### Ruts and rocking blocks
Wheel tracks, dips and loose blocks are almost always a sub-base problem, not a surface problem. Re-laying the top over a base that was never right simply buys a season or two.

### Trip hazards at the front door
Lifted slabs, sunken edges and broken kerb lines are the part of a property people actually walk on, in the dark, carrying shopping.

### Common mistakes we get called out to fix

- |Choosing on surface price alone, when the sub-base is what decides how long it lasts
- |Laying a new surface straight over the old one to save excavation
- |Skipping edge restraints, so the whole drive spreads sideways under load
- |Leaving out drainage, then finding out where the water goes the first wet month
- |Paying a large deposit up front to someone you have not seen finish a job

What you get

## What a PaveCreate job actually gives you

### Built on a base that carries the load
Excavation to the right depth and a compacted sub-base, because the layer nobody sees is the layer that decides whether the drive is still flat in ten years.

### Water sent where it should go
Falls, edgings and drainage are set out as part of the job, not bolted on when someone notices a puddle.

### One price, everything in
Materials, excavation, sub-base, edgings, drainage, the surface and removal of all waste. Nothing added on afterwards.

### Nothing to pay until it is done
No deposit and no payment of any kind until the driveway is finished and you are happy with it. We buy the materials ourselves up front. They simply stay ours until the job is paid for, which is what lets us ask nothing of you until the work is finished.

### Guaranteed for five years
A 5-year workmanship guarantee covering everything but fair wear and tear, direct from us rather than a third-party scheme.

### Help choosing the surface
Martin talks through colours, patterns and materials against your house and your budget, rather than leaving you to pick from a brochure.

In detail

## Materials, methods and the options open to you

### Resin bound driveways
Natural aggregate mixed with a clear resin and trowelled out to a smooth, seamless surface. Laid on a sound base it is permeable, so surface water drains through rather than running off, and there are no joints for weeds to come up through. It suits smart, modern frontages and works well where a level, wheel-friendly finish matters: pushchairs, wheelchairs and bins all roll over it easily.

### Resin gravel
A loose-stone look with the stone held in place. It gives the character of a gravel drive without the stones ending up on the pavement, in the lawn or under a car, and is a common choice for period and rural properties where plain tarmac would look out of place.

### Tarmac driveways
A hard-wearing, continuous surface that copes well with regular vehicle use and long runs of driveway. Laid and compacted over a properly prepared base with defined edges, it gives a clean, uniform finish and is straightforward to keep tidy.

### Block paving
Individual blocks laid to a pattern, herringbone, stretcher bond or basketweave, with contrasting borders and edge courses. Because the surface is made of separate units, a damaged area can be lifted and reset rather than the whole drive being taken up. Pattern, block size and colour all change how large a frontage reads, which is worth setting out before the first block is laid.

### Concrete imprint
Poured concrete stamped and coloured while it cures, so a single continuous slab takes on the pattern of stone, slate or brick. There are no joints and no loose units, which makes for a very solid, low-maintenance surface.

- Patterned stone and brick effects
- Continuous, joint-free surface
- No blocks to settle or lift individually

### What happens below the surface
Every driveway follows the same sequence regardless of the finish: the existing surface is excavated and taken away, the formation is prepared and compacted, a sub-base is laid and consolidated, edge restraints are set to stop the surface spreading, and falls and drainage are formed so water runs to where it should. Only then does the chosen surface go down. Skipping or thinning any one of those stages is the single most common reason a driveway fails early.

### Driveways across our area
We lay driveways for homes in St Neots, Bedford, Sawtry, Huntingdon, Wellingborough, Cambridge, Rushden, Sandy and Northampton, plus the surrounding towns and villages. Older properties, estate housing and new-builds all bring different ground conditions and different access, and the site visit is where that gets worked out rather than guessed at.

Common questions

## Driveways: questions we get asked
How much does a new driveway cost?It depends on the size of the area, the surface you choose and what has to come out first, so every price comes from a site visit rather than a rate over the phone. The quote is free, carries no obligation, and includes materials, excavation, sub-base, edgings, drainage and waste removal.

Do you take a deposit before starting? No. There is no deposit and no payment of any kind until the driveway is finished and you are happy with it. We buy all the materials ourselves up front. They simply stay ours until the job is paid for, which is what lets us ask nothing of you until the work is finished.

Is the driveway guaranteed?Yes. All our work carries a 5-year workmanship guarantee covering everything but fair wear and tear, given directly by us rather than through a third-party scheme.

Do you remove the old driveway?Yes. Excavation of the existing surface and removal of all the waste is part of the job, along with a full clean-up at the end.

Which driveway surface lasts best? All of them last well when the base beneath them is right, which is why the groundwork matters more than the choice of surface. Martin will talk through how each option behaves on your particular drive before you commit.

Can you help me choose a colour and pattern?Yes. Design help is part of the service: colours, patterns and surfaces chosen to suit your house rather than picked blind from a sample board.

Will the new driveway drain properly?Falls, edgings and drainage are set out as part of every job so water is directed away from the house instead of ponding on the surface.

Do you work in my town?We cover St Neots, Bedford, Sawtry, Huntingdon, Wellingborough, Cambridge, Rushden, Sandy and Northampton, plus the surrounding towns and villages. If you are just outside, ask and we will tell you straight away.
