What this covers

## Fencing & Gates across Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire & Northamptonshire
Fencing does three jobs at once: it marks the boundary, it keeps children and dogs in and everything else out, and it frames the whole garden. It also takes more punishment than anything else outside: wind loading on a solid fence is considerable, and every gust is transferred straight into the posts and whatever is holding them.

PaveCreate fits all kinds of fencing finishes, plus gates, as part of a full landscaping job or on its own. The old fence and the old posts come out and go away with us, the new line is set out properly, and the site is left clean.

It suits homeowners with a fence leaning after a storm, rotten posts that have finally let go, a boundary being replaced after years of patching, or a new gate needed for access, security or a pram and bins.

### When homeowners call us
Panels leaning, flapping or blown out after high wind
- Posts rotted at ground level, however sound the panels look
- A boundary that has been patched one panel at a time for years
- New fencing to finish off a driveway, patio or landscaping job
- A gate for side access, bins, prams or security
- Screening for privacy where a garden is overlooked

What happens if it is left

## The cost of leaving it another season
A failing fence is the outdoor job most often left until the weather decides it for you.

### One post takes the rest with it
A fence line works as a whole. Once one post goes, the load moves onto its neighbours and the failure spreads along the run, usually in a single windy week.

### Damage on the way down
A blown-out panel does not land politely. It hits cars, greenhouses, plants and, in the worst cases, people and pets.

### Security and pets
A gap at the bottom of a leaning fence is all a dog needs, and an unsecured side gate is the easiest way into a back garden and whatever is stored there.

### Patch repairs that cost more
Replacing panels one at a time on posts that are already going means paying twice, once for the patch, once for the fence you needed in the first place.

### Common mistakes we get called out to fix

- |Replacing panels while leaving the old rotten posts in the ground
- |Setting posts too shallow for the height and solidity of the fence
- |Ignoring the fall of the ground, so the fence line steps or leaves gaps underneath
- |Hanging a heavy gate on posts never set to carry the swing
- |Leaving the old fence and concrete stacked in the garden for someone else to deal with

What you get

## What a PaveCreate job actually gives you

### Posts set to hold
The posts are what keep a fence up, so they are set to suit the height and the exposure of the line rather than to a standard depth.

### A straight, even line
The run is set out against the boundary and the fall of the ground so the fence reads level and there are no gaps left at the bottom.

### Old fencing taken away
The old panels, posts and concrete come out and go with us. No pile left behind and no separate skip to arrange.

### Gates hung to swing true
Gate posts are set for the weight and the swing, so the gate still closes cleanly once the ground has settled.

### Nothing to pay up front
No deposit and no payment until the fencing is finished and you are happy with it.

### Guaranteed for five years
A 5-year workmanship guarantee on all work carried out, covering everything but fair wear and tear.

In detail

## Materials, methods and the options open to you

### Fencing finishes
We fit all kinds of fencing finishes, plus gates. Different boundaries want different things, some need full privacy, others just a clear line, so the right finish for your garden is talked through at the free site visit.

### Posts, gravel boards and fixings
The visible part of a fence is rarely what fails. Posts, how they are set, and what sits between the bottom of the panel and the wet ground decide the life of the whole run. Gravel boards keep the panel clear of soil and standing water, which is where rot starts, and they can be replaced later without touching the panels above.

### Gates
Side gates, garden gates and driveway gates each carry different loads and swing over different surfaces. The post has to be set for the weight of the leaf, the ground under the arc has to allow the gate to open through the year, and the ironmongery has to suit how often it will be used and how secure it needs to be.

### Sloping and uneven boundaries
Very few boundaries are level. A run can be stepped, with each bay set horizontally and dropping at the post, or raked to follow the ground. Which one looks right depends on the slope and on what is on either side, and it is worth deciding before the first post goes in rather than after.

### Fencing as part of a bigger job
Fencing is often the last thing to go in after a driveway, patio or landscaping job, and it is far easier to set posts before a new lawn or paving is laid up to the line. Where we are already on site, the fence line, the paving edge and the wall or sleeper detail can all be set out together so the finished garden lines up.

Common questions

## Fencing & Gates: questions we get asked
How much does new fencing cost?It depends on the length of the run, the style and height of fence, and what has to come out first. The site visit and quote are free and carry no obligation.

Do you take the old fence away?Yes. The old panels, posts and concrete are removed and taken away with us, and the area is cleaned up before we leave.

Do I pay anything before the work starts? No. There is no deposit and no payment of any kind until the fencing is up and you are happy with it.

Is the fencing guaranteed?Yes, a 5-year workmanship guarantee covering everything but fair wear and tear, given directly by us.

Can you replace just the posts and keep my panels? If the panels are genuinely sound it can be worth doing, and Martin will tell you honestly at the site visit rather than quoting for a full replacement by default.

Can you fit a gate as well?Yes. Gates are part of what we do, with the posts set for the weight and the swing so the gate keeps closing properly.

My garden slopes: can it still be fenced neatly?Yes. The run is either stepped or raked to follow the ground, and we will show you which will look right on your boundary before starting.

Which areas do you cover for fencing?St Neots, Bedford, Sawtry, Huntingdon, Wellingborough, Cambridge, Rushden, Sandy and Northampton, plus the surrounding towns and villages.
